During his degree, he studied sustainable development in Italy and international human rights law in Argentina, as well as undertaking an exchange to Leiden University in the Netherlands, where he studied European human rights, migration and asylum law. He also volunteered with the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre and the Eastern Community Legal Centre assisting clients in family violence matters.
In the final year of his degree, Benjamin completed his Honours’ thesis which analysed how human rights law can apply to challenge offshore asylum processing policies, comparing Australia’s use of offshore processing in Nauru and the United Kingdom’s attempted arrangement with Rwanda. He also has an extensive academic research background covering refugee law, international environmental law and the Victorian Charter of Human Rights. Ben is deeply passionate about migration and human rights law and is invested in achieving fair outcomes for people needing immigration assistance. |
