Karyn Anderson

Karyn graduated from the University of Melbourne in Arts and Law and holds a Master of Laws (cum laude) in Public International Law from the University of Leiden, the Netherlands. She was admitted to legal practice in 1993 and has practised solely in the areas of immigration and refugee law for over twenty years, becoming a registered migration agent in 1996. She established her own legal practice with Michael Clothier in 2003 and continues to be the managing partner of Clothier Anderson Immigration Lawyers after Michael’s retirement in 2019. Karyn has extensive experience in all areas of immigration and refugee law including preparing primary visa applications and complex submissions to the Department and representing applicants in merits review applications in the AAT as well as judicial review applications in the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia, Federal Court of Australia and High Court of Australia. Karyn became an accredited immigration and refugee law specialist in 2000 and has served on the Law Institute of Victoria’s Immigration Law Advisory Committee, which sets the examinations for lawyers wanting to be accredited as specialists most years since then. Karyn is a regular presenter of seminars to fellow lawyers and migration agents and has written numerous articles in the areas of immigration and refugee law. Her legal opinions have been sought in various court cases such as family law and criminal matters. Karyn has been selected by her peers each year since 2009 as one of Australia’s “Best Lawyers” in the field of Immigration Law published annually in the Australian Financial Review, following a rigorous peer review survey. Since 2021 she has been selected as a leading immigration lawyer in Doyles’ Guide. |
